As your surveys suggested, we’ve changed our “seminars” to “workshops.” What’s the difference? Workshops will be include more participation and interaction and less lecture.
Faith & Reason – Phil Boom
Throughout the ages, our faith has been under attack by society around us – including scientists, the government, in our education systems, and even by organized religions.
Today we are told that everything is relative, and it doesn’t matter WHAT you believe. We are told to respect and tolerate every perspective – there are no absolutes. Can our Faith withstand the attacks by today’s culture? Is it reasonable to believe in a just God, who cares about the details of our lives, our nation and the world in which we operate? Are the atheists and evolutionist right, or do we in fact have a sound basis for our faith in Christ and belief in the Bible as God’s revelation? We will answer theses questions, and look at some resources that can help you to strengthen your faith.
What’s Love Got to do with it? Everything! – Jason & Kristin Campbell
There is no greater expression of caring than to show true love. But what is true love? Where can it be found? How can it be shown? Christianity revolutionized the concept and practice of loving by providing the example of Jesus Christ and making love a command of the faith – not just a pleasant state of being. This workshop will cover the meanings of love found in the Bible, the connection between being a disciple of Christ, establishing loving relationships and practical insights into understanding true love.

Election, Sovereignty, and Free Will in a Postmodern World – Kevin Ledgister
We won’t solve the classical debate that’s been raging since ancient philosophical times. However, we do need to provide viable answers to our postmodern world as well as answer some of our own questions in regards to these topics. Why care about sharing our faith if God has already selected those who will be saved? What does election really mean anyway?
Sin has been conquered - Enjoy the Victory! – John Lyman
Trials -- frustrations -- failures -- Sometimes I just want to give up. I listen to Satan shouting in my ear, “If you want to have a good time you gotta just forget God for a while and do what feels good.” Then I hate myself and I and realize I’ve failed the One who endured my death. God knew we would have these difficulties. It’s part of having the ability to make choices – that facility which God so highly values that he will not take away from us. We can use our ability to choose right and enjoy victory. There is strength available through God’s Word to give us victory in Christ.
Manly Men – Chuck Myers
I’m doing this “workshop thing” on men being men. You see the thing is, it’s too easy to do nothing and then wonder why things don’t happen. Or have someone criticize you when you do do something and give up and say something like, “those old guys just don’t get it, and refuse to change.” Or my personal favorite, come in like a bull in a china shop, trying to make things happen and are shocked that no one wants to follow you. Well all that is a bunch of “hooey” (nice word, huh). This workshop will be on becoming the man God wants you to be, in the church setting, at home or even with the ladies (OK maybe not with the ladies). But we will look and see what God wants from the men. Come check it out, I promise no hugging or crying, no “feelings” being shared. You can even belch out loud (but that’s it). Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
Him – Happily Ever After?
Marriage for real men – Myths or God’s Truth – Andrew Nunn
This seminar, led by Andrew Nunn, a husband of 23 years, and father of 4, for guys only, will be looking at the expectations of marriage from a male point of view with a Biblical perspective. We shall look at some key Biblical principles that will allow single men to be prepared for a realistic but fulfilling Christian marriage. The workshop will include question & answer time. This seminar is the male counterpart of Marianne Nunn's workshop for girls only.
Her – Happily Ever After?
Marriage for authentic women – Fact or Fiction – Marianne Nunn
This seminar, led by Marianne Nunn, a wife of 23 years, and mother of 4, for girls only, will be looking at the expectations of marriage from a female point of view with a Biblical perspective. We'll evaluate the popular ideas women have about this topic and compare these to what the Bible has to say. We shall look at some key Biblical principles that will allow single women to be prepared for a realistic but fulfilling Christian marriage. The workshop will include question & answer time. This seminar is the female version of Andrew Nunn's workshop for guys only.
Engaging our Culture - Dennis Siler
Where in the world are we going as a Western culture? And how in the world do we engage our culture without avoiding it or getting engulfed in it? Come and learn how to think with a Christian worldview. This workshop has two parts. Part I will deal address the idea of where our culture is today, how you can engage it without avoiding it or being engulfed by it. Part II will guide you to think “worldviewishly,” and make you think about your perceptions of others.
Dealing with Tragedy – Ian Taylor
What do you do when someone close to you suddenly dies? How can we handle a loss like that and keep a positive attitude? What about a wife, brother, or child having a lingering terminal illness? Does God have an answer to help our lacerated emotions? Does God really care?
Setting an Example – Brittany Van Ryn
We all know the importance of setting an example for those younger than us and even to our peers, but what about the forty-year-old married woman who seems to have it all together? Or the eighty-year old widower who faithfully attends church? Should we even care about being an example to them? This workshop involves taking a deeper look at 1 Timothy 4:12 and discussing the five different aspects of setting an example for all believers, with special emphasis on our relationship to our older brothers and sisters in Christ. Make sure to sign up for either the "hymn-lovers" or the "skit-lovers" evening, as each will only be offered one night.
Media Worldview – Cody Van Ryn & Josh Nixon
With modern communications advances just in your lifetime, it’s now easier than ever for you to access just about any form of mass media you want, any time you want. Sometimes it's easy to overlook the subtle messages nested in your favorite song or television program. 2 Corinthians 10:5 instructs us to "take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ," and one essential aspect of this is applying the filter of
God's Word to any media we consume. During this hands-on workshop, we'll give you the chance to put your detection skills to the test and then report your findings. While there are numerous forms of media we could discuss, we'll focus on three in particular:
film, advertising, and music. Bring your Bible, and come prepared to enjoy yourself and be challenged in your approach to mass media.
Forgiveness, Acceptance and Assurance – Tim Van Ryn
Do you struggle with guilt, feeling as though you can't be forgiven for everything you've done? Do you feel that God can’t fully accept you for who you are? Do you feel unsure of your salvation at times - that maybe God has given up on you after all? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, come and see what Satan is trying his hardest to keep a secret from you! Hear what God says in His word about full forgiveness through Christ, acceptance in Christ, and assurance by Christ alone.
Absolutely Authentic – Steve Witter
Just be real. Be yourself….express yourself….be who you are—then you are being authentic. Jesus loves you just as you are….so be yourself, and love yourself just as you are. Sound familiar? Nothing wrong with those thoughts is there? ABSOLUTELY not…..as long as authenticity is measured by the ABSOLUTES of Scripture. This workshop will examine how we can live authentically—while maintaining a commitment to the absolutes of God’s Word.
The Prayer Path – Heidi Zorn
The Prayer Path is a unique prayer and devotional experience that helps you draw closer to God. You will "journey" through the labyrinth over the span of about an hour guided by a CD which contains devotional narration set against a worshipful music backdrop.
There are eleven stations that make up this journey leading you to "let go" of the busyness, hurts, and distractions that can spoil your relationships; "center" your life on God and spend personal time with Him, and reach out to your world with Christ's love. Space is very limited during workshop times, but the Path will be open at other times during the Retreat.
